Republicans are not the only force in American politics opposed to Euthanasia. The overwhelming majority of Democrats are against its legalization. In fact the majority of American politicians opposed to Euthanasia in Congress are Democrats, not Republicans. The Republicans in many ways haven't even been the loudest in opposing Euthanasia as they are trying desperately to remain in the mainstream of American Politics. The issue surrounding Euthanasia is fairly out of the mainstream.
The fact remains (fortunately or unfortunately) that the American public wants little to do with legalized Euthanasia at this point in time and it remains a quite radical political issue.
